The worldwide phenomenon Doctor Who has long been a television staple. With a mixture of drama, horror, comedy and sci-fi, the show caters for everyone. But just how much science is in science fiction?

To find out, we brought together a group of experts and forced them to sit through countless episodes of Doctor Who. Luckily, as well as being scientists (plus one science nerd), they’re also huge Doctor Who fans – one even looks suspiciously like one of the Doctors.

Sci-fi fans joined comedian Rob Lloyd , physicists Martin White and David Jennens (University of Melbourne), and astrobiologist Allie Ford (Monash University) to take a light-hearted look inside Doctor Who. We found out just how art interprets and imitates science, and what science fiction has to say about the advances science is making.
